Wonders of Winter
Come along with Rabbi Roth as he guides us on an adventure into the heart of winter! This course is all about the science, halacha and haskhafa of winter.
You’ll get answers to questions like where seasons come from, how many ways we pray for rain, what brachos to say on thunder and lightning and lots of other "cool" topics.
Together, we’ll explore:
- The cycle of the seasons
- The meaning behind praying for rain
- The wonder of snow
- Torah, rain, and long winter nights
- Rain on Shabbos
- …and so much more!
Davening for Rain
Learn about why rain is so important in Eretz Yisrael, why we mention rain in two different brachos in tefillah and why davening for rain doesn’t happen at the same time of year everywhere in the world. Find out what to do if you forgot to mention rain in “Mashiv HaRuach” or to ask for it by saying Tal U’Matar in “Barech Aleinu.” Gain a new appreciation for the miracle of precipitation and Hashem’s endless kindness.
Halachic Questions on a Winter Shabbos
There are a number of halachic questions unique to Shabbos in the winter. For instance, can you build a snowman or shovel snow on a winter Shabbos? How should you fill your time on a long Friday night? Can you hang up wet clothes when you come in from the rain? What kind of rain and winter gear can you wear on Shabbos if there’s no eruv? Rabbi Roth leaves no stone unturned in his quest to bring you answers to all these questions.
