Activities for Yeshiva Week Vacation

Yeshiva Week vacation can be a time for growth and family togetherness, whether you’re staying home or going away. Here are some Torah Live-themed suggestions for making this week rich in educational fun and bonding. These activities don’t require a lot of preparation time, so they’re doable even if you are busy with your regular schedule.

Family Film Night

There’s nothing kids love more than snuggling on the couch with their parents and siblings to watch a film together. Make a big batch of popcorn, add some other treats, grab blankets and pillows and settle down to watch Live to Give together. This film will surely inspire conversations about the role of chesed in our lives, which brings us to our next activity idea.

Chesed Activity

Sit down with your kids and make a list of chesed activities that are accessible and impactful. These could include things like baking challah or dessert for a busy family, grocery shopping for an elderly person, visiting a sick person in the neighborhood or delivering handmade drawings to someone who needs cheering up. Once you’ve chosen a chesed, involve the kids as much as possible in every step of the process, so they have ownership over the chesed and are motivated to find more ways to help others.

Torah Learning Marathon

If you have to leave your kids at home for a few hours while you’re at work or otherwise occupied, challenge them to a learning marathon. Promise a reward if they earn a certain amount of Torah Live points by watching videos, reading comics, answering quizzes and participating in challenges. You can even create a separate award for listing the 5 most surprising or interesting things they learned over the course of the day. That will certainly make for a fascinating dinner table conversation!

Walk in Nature

Tu B’Shvat is just around the corner and you can get ready for it with a walk in nature to look for animals and plants that demonstrate the wonder and complexity of Hashem’s world. This activity will be more impactful if you start by watching Wisdom in Creation and taking a look at the accompanying illustrations. Then give each child a notebook and pen and have them list all the interesting things they spot in nature while walking through your yard or a nearby park. At home, encourage them to research what makes these creations so unique. What characteristics did Hashem give them to help them survive and fulfill their role in the ecosystem? Each kid can then present what they learned to the rest of the family.
