Benny’s Bodyguard: A Family Story About Courage, Prayer, and Never Giving Up

Have you or your child ever faced a challenge that just felt… too big? Maybe it was a tough day at school, a problem with a friend, or just feeling left out. Here’s an uplifting story for parents and kids, inspired by true events and Jewish wisdom, to remind you: you are never alone, and every prayer counts.

Benny’s Challenge

Benny was an 11-year-old with a big heart, but a tough problem. Every day, there was a bigger boy at school who teased him and made him feel small. Benny tried to put on a brave face, laughing along with the others, but his feelings were hurt. When the big boy started picking on him after he got a new bike, it was the last straw. Benny came home and, instead of telling his parents right away, sat quietly on the couch, clutching a Tehillim and fighting back tears.

His mother noticed – as parents do – that something was wrong. Gently, she asked him what was bothering him. With brave honesty, Benny admitted that he wasn’t praying for a sick friend this time. He was asking Hashem to be his bodyguard and protect him from bullying. He hadn’t gone to his teacher or principal – he turned to Hashem first, knowing that every prayer, even from a child, is powerful.

The Power of Family and Prayer

His mother’s heart ached for Benny, but she was amazed by his emunah. She shared his struggle with their close neighbor, Chaya, who had been waiting many years to have a child. Chaya gently asked Benny, “Would you pray for me, too? Ask Hashem to be my bodyguard as well.”

Benny set out to pray for both of them.

In the coming days, the bullying stopped. And – a miracle! – the following year, Chaya welcomed a baby into her family.

Uplifting Takeaways for Your Family

  • Every member counts: Parents, take time to listen beneath the surface. Kids, share your challenges: miracles often start that way!
  • Prayer is powerful: Even when things look impossible, sincere words from the heart can move mountains.
  • Support and empathy: Sometimes the answer isn’t fixing the problem with a solution, but being there, listening, and letting your child know they’re never alone.
