Melachos of Shabbos

Halachah / Jewish LawTeens
de, ru, en, it, fr, he, es

Hashem has given us an incredible gift - a weekly Shabbbos where we spiritually recharge and connect to Him. There are two cornerstones of Shabbos - the positive commandments, which connect us both to the creation of the world and to the exodus from Egypt, and the negative commandments, which make Shabbos a “day of rest” that is unique to the Torah and to the Jewish people. In order to keep Shabbos fully, we must fully understand its laws and regulations.

Become an Expert in the Laws of Shabbos

If you want to become an expert in the laws of Shabbos, you need to know the lingo. There are 39 melachos that are prohibited on shabbos, and each one has subsidiaries that are also prohibited. In this series, we explain the various terms and what they mean, including how an action needs to be performed in order to be prohibited. We also delve more deeply into many of the lamed tes melachos, including cooking, plowing, blending, selecting and more. You’ll learn how each of these actions was done in the Mishkan and how it applies to our lives today.

The halachos surrounding shabbos are so numerous that it would take a long time to learn them all, but at the end of this course, you will have gained a tremendous amount of knowledge that will help you keep shabbos more carefully.
